Using your simple retrospective

A simple, effective way for your team to sort out their thoughts and decide on the what the team should start doing and stop.
The Simple Retrospective allows your team to create a list of Do’s and Don’ts around a decision, independently or collaboratively. You can then review the results and capture comments for clarification. Finally capture votes or rate the level of impact.
Choose the level of anonymity, who can enter ideas, and how many. Your team can join in anywhere, anytime with a simple password or link.
The result? A visually weighted Simple Retrospective list with everyone’s original ideas, votes, comments and ratings. All done in real time.

Using your Simple Retrospective Template

Need to make a Do’s and Don’ts chart for your predicament? A Simple Retrospective helps to bring clarity to thinking, making it easier to work out what you should stop and start doing. Prioritise and weight arguments to weigh up the relative impact of each idea, thus making it easier to decide which direction to head. This exercise gets thoughts out of people’s heads and into the open for discussion.

  • Step 1 – Add your question and instructions to the Simple Retrospective template. This helps to focus your team’s thinking. Invite your team in to the map by password, link or email via their laptop, PC, Mac or tablet. Decide if you want people to see ideas from others (collaborative) or if you want to hide these (independently).
  • Step 2 – Each person now creates a list of what the team should stop and start doing. People can also order the list in accordance to what they think is the most important. If ideas from other participants are also being shown, then they have to decide if they want to add or remove this from their own list. When done, go to the review stage and discuss what people have said.
  • Step 3 – You can also click on an idea and capture comments and questions. People can also indicate if they like or dislike an idea. As the map creator, you can also pin ideas that are especially significant or block/remove ideas that are duplicates.
  • Step 4 – Use the voting stage to decide on which ideas are best applicable for your team’s current situation. Click through to the results stage when done.
  • Step 5 – Your Simple Retrospective is now complete. Decide how you want to weight and display the results or feel free to print off a PDF or export to Excel as needed.
