Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost for participants to join a map?
Nothing, zippo, nada, zilch. It’s always free for participants to join a map. It’s also free to create an account. (No credit card needed.)
Can I customize my maps?
Absolutely! It’s one of the great features of GroupMap. You can change headings, map title and heading descriptions of your map. You can also add and remove steps to the process and decide on the workflow. After all, each team is different, so your maps should be as well. Check out our tour page, or the GroupMap Knowledge Base.
Can I embed my GroupMap into my website?
Yes, on the Enterprise plan. You can embed a map or workspace in your own website with an iframe that uses its invitation URL. Login pages, single sign-on and map creation aren’t available inside the embed. See Embedding maps or workspaces for the details.
Can others change the maps settings?
No, only the map facilitator can change the map settings, so you stay in control every step of the way.
Can I share my map on social media?
Yes. Open the map, click Invite (top right), choose the role people will join as, then copy the URL and paste it wherever you like. Anyone who opens the link joins in that role, and your plan sets how many people can join. If you need to close the door later, you can revoke the link and issue a new one.
How can I keep track of activity in my maps?
GroupMap emails you about it. As a facilitator, you get an email when ideas or comments are added to a map after you’ve closed it. It arrives 24 hours after the activity, with a link that takes you straight back to the map.
How do I create my own template?
On the Professional and Enterprise plans, find a map you facilitate on your GroupMap homepage, open its options menu and select Save as template. It then appears in the Your templates category. To start from scratch instead, click Create a map and choose the Blank category.
How do I remove a participant?
As a facilitator, open the map and click Participants (top right). Select the person, click the More options icon (three dots), then Remove. You can revoke their access only, or delete them along with their contributions. To cut off everyone who has the old link, revoke the map’s link and share a new one with the people you want.
How do I moderate ideas?
As a facilitator, you can delete individual ideas and remove comments (More options, then Remove comment). In the map’s customization options you can also stop participants from editing or removing each other’s ideas, and turn on the profanity filter.
How do I send my map to others?
Open the map and click Invite (top right). You can invite people by email, share the map ID for them to enter at join.groupmap.com, copy the map’s URL, or show a QR code they scan with their phone.
How do I clone a previous map I’ve created?
On the Professional and Enterprise plans, you can copy a map two ways. To include its ideas, open the map, click the More options icon (top right) and choose Clone with ideas. To reuse just the setup, find the map on your GroupMap homepage, open its options menu and choose Use as template. The new map keeps the settings, headings and descriptions.
Do I need a GroupMap account to join a map?
No, you don’t need a paid account to join a map. If you’d like to run your own maps, sign up for a free 14-day trial (no credit card needed).
